This week I drove 240 miles one-way to attend a Scott Kelby photography seminar. I was amazed to arrive at the venue and see this huge swarm of bodies! Five hundred and seventy people registered for this. That’s one big bunch of photography nuts! Was it worth the drive and a whole day of my time? Heck yes! This is the second Scott Kelby seminar that I have attended. The previous one was a couple of years ago. Scott is a down to earth presenter that shares a ton of knowledge and useful tips on taking good photographs, and information on lower cost alternative equipment like lighting, lenses, remote triggers etc. He “de-bunks” many myths and recommends less “over thinking” regarding f-stops, shutter speeds, file formats, “the best” equipment etc. Scott offers a few simple formulas for getting great shots with less angst.
After the first seminar, I mentally tagged Scott as a “generous” celebrity. What does that mean? To me it means that he freely makes himself available during the breaks for questions, book signings, photos with him etc. Again, at the end of this seminar, when many presenters would scoot for the door, he offered to stay around as long as his airport schedule will allow to try and “not leave anyone with that burning question that they just wanted to get answered “.
